Finding Philly: The Search for COFFEE

Finding Philly: The Search for COFFEE

If you know us (you honestly don’t even need to know us all that well), it’s no secret that Lynsey and I love coffee. You also might be aware that we recently moved our family to Philadelphia…had we mentioned that? Post move, the first task of this coffee loving set of parents was to FIND ALL THE COFFEE Philly has to offer. Sure, we could have simply done a survey or asked some people we know in the area, but…

Wine on My Mind: A Wine + Activity Pairing

Wine on My Mind: A Wine + Activity Pairing

How to celebrate National Wine Day in 3 easy steps: Drink wine. Develop a wine preference survey and send it to all your friends. Laugh at their responses…while drinking more wine. As you may recall, we celebrated National Wine Day last month. As I observed countless festive social media posts, received celebratory texts from friends and did a little GIF sourcing of my own (duh)…I couldn’t help but wonder…WHAT’S THE WINE PREFERENCE OF THE MASSES (aka my small pool of…

Everyday Data with Lynsey + Dan

Everyday Data with Lynsey + Dan

What is it?We love data collection and visualization, especially when it comes to illustrating what others might find mundane. But you already know this about us. Whether it’s getting real about how much coffee we drink on a daily basis or creating a web chart of top ranked baby names, we nerd out over data collection, analysis and illustration in a big way. Why lifestyle topics? Our initial goal was to quantify many of our family choices and actions, thus…

Data on Daily: Banksy

Data on Daily: Banksy

Lynsey and I have been exploring the Tableau Public Gallery. We hope to start developing a few dashboards based on data we think are fun. Up first, conceptualizing a viz involving data from the National Park Services. In our exploration for inspiration, we came across this viz of Banksy art. The piece by André Oliveira serves as a sort of gallery of Banksy’s art with data that is simplified. If you are wondering how this works, simply select a bubble (or a city). When you select a…

Data on the Daily: Earth Day!

Data on the Daily: Earth Day!

To celebrate Earth Day, we’re sharing this interactive data viz on energy use by state. We stumbled upon this gem on Tableau Public. The visualization uses open data to show the proportion of energy that comes from each major energy source, broken down by state. States are represented by a hexagon. Viewers can change energy source (coal, natural gas, nuclear, renewable, hydro, petroleum) by selecting the timeline for each source. The fill inside the state hexagons represent the proportion of a state’s energy that…

Lars Vs. Lynsey

Lars Vs. Lynsey

Hey, Lars here! So far Lyns has been heading up most of the social media campaign, but I’ve come up with a segment of my own. We love making creative videos, images and posts to share with all of you, but we are always struggling with new ideas. While we embark on our crowdsourcing campaign to raise money for Go Go, we thought why not crowdsource for creative ideas for post material? Over the next few weeks, the remaining time…

Operation Get “Go Go” Going has LAUNCHED!

Operation Get “Go Go” Going has LAUNCHED!

We’re Kickstarter rejects! But that’s okay, we get it. Their guidelines call for creative projects with a clear beginning and end. During the review process, Operation: Get Go Go Going was not considered such a project. Technically we disagree, but none the less, we get it. We filed a short little appeal (you only get 500 characters), but we don’t expect them to reconsider. In the meantime, while I wasn’t screaming, “Whyyyyyyy? Whyyyyyyyy?” (Nancy Kerrigan style…sorry)— I googled “why does…
