Everyday Data with Lynsey + Dan

What is it?

We love data collection and visualization, especially when it comes to illustrating what others might find mundane. But you already know this about us. Whether it’s getting real about how much coffee we drink on a daily basis or creating a web chart of top ranked baby names, we nerd out over data collection, analysis and illustration in a big way. Why lifestyle topics? Our initial goal was to quantify many of our family choices and actions, thus increasing our quality of life. We’ve collected data on how many times the kids say our names, the content of our text messages and even how much water we drink. You’ve followed along and commiserated with us as we discovered hilarious patterns, and you’ve shared our experience. That’s when we realized it, YOU’RE interesting…and funny, and pretty, and totally quantifiable.

We started asking you questions. Like…are you a hoarder? How are you spending your Super Bowl Sunday? AND most recently (using HTML and Javascript), what’s your ideal Mother’s Day plan?

Cue our new concept…EVERYDAY DATA. Have you participated in one of our lifestyle data collections? Do you have a question you know could be answered by an everyday data collection? Join our everyday data team! We created a basic demographic survey in order to develop a pool of lifestyle data collection participants. Now, whenever we (or YOU) have an idea for a lifestyle visualization, we’re already half way there with a group of survey responders. When we have a new collection concept, you’ll get an email with a 1 or 2 topic related questions. We’ll use your answers along with your demographic information to create an Everyday Data visualization.

So what do you think? Will you join our team? Help us visualize the data you never knew you needed.

  1. Maybe my iPad but every time I selected an answer, the site jumped to this section, and I had to scroll back each time.
